Songlists
Jim "Mc" Cureton has been playing music in public since 1962. Once a sax-man in a 1960's Rock and Roll band, Jim has returned to music after a long career as a computer professional. Mellowing with age like a fine scotch, Jim plays melodies he has enjoyed all his life, the same tunes many others enjoy.

Jim's music and computer skills combine to create MC and Sax, a one-man band with a little help from my computer*. Jim plays an 88 Key Piano keyboard, a wind controller, and occasionally a real Tenor Sax and Clarinet. The computer plays bass, drums, guitar, and strings. Together the instruments combine to deliver a wide variety of sounds appropriate for many occasions.

Big Music in a Small Space

A one man band can fit into spaces a 5 piece combo never thought of. As little as 3 x 5 feet for a Wind and Computer only setup, 5 x 7 feet for a full setup with the full size piano keyboard. That makes MC and Sax ideal when you want live music for a party and your space is limited.

You like live music but the band is always too loud

Because MC and Sax is all electronic instruments, the music can be any volume. Quiet background music in the same room as a dinner party, or foot stomping volume for dancing.

Music Your Way

MC and Sax can play a lot of songs. The natural sound is sort of a 'Country Jazz', but it can be more or less of each, depending on the hosts wishes. Other styles, Pop, Disco, Big Band, Show Tunes, Dixieland available on request.

Jim Mc's Piano Bar

A special version of Mc and Sax, available at any engagement, Jim Mc's Piano Bar is more interactive. Songs by request, stump the band, stump the audience, tell me how it goes and I'll try and play it...sing along folk songs. A good-time mode.

*My Computer

My computer assists me in several ways.

Many of my songs are accompanied using a probram called Band-in-a-Box. Band in a Box, or BIAB for short, helps me by supplying some great musicians for backup. Drums, Bass, Guitar, and sometimes strings and other instruments. BIAB is different than just playing to prerecorded tracks like a karaoke.
  • * Songs can be played in any key and tempo
  • * Musicians can be added or removed and can play using different musical styles
  • * Each performance may be slightly different, just like with real musicians. Since each computerized instrumentalist 'reads' his music for eachperformance and sometimes supplies embellishments, each rendition may be slightly different, adding to the variety and realism of the playing.

On a few songs, I use pre-arranged music stored as Midi files. (Midi is a computer term meaning Musical Instrument Digital Interface). These songs are less flexible than those using BIAB, but offer greater variety in the actual arrangements.

I use a state of the art digital sound modules to reproduce the sounds for both types of music, and all sounds are produced live by the sound modules.
